Chatter: Summer Wasteland

Is it just me, or is this summer particularly devoid of interesting television? It’s reality show after reality show, isn’t it? Ugh (although I freely admit to being a fan of Deadliest Catch and Wipeout) Thank God for True Blood! What I should be doing is watching the first few seasons of Mad Men on DVD. Oh, that reminds me, AMC is running a viewer’s choice marathon of Season 1 beginning at 8:00 tomorrow night, in case your interested.

Season 2 of Syfy’s Warehouse 13 premieres on this Tuesday night, July 6. It’s not a really great show, but it is sort of fun and lightweight and good for summertime viewing.

The A.V. Club has been re-watching and reviewing The X-Files and in their latest installment they begin season 3 with “The Blessing Way” and “Paper Clip”. I just loved the opening paragraph:

Season three of The X-Files is, for me, hands down, its best season and maybe one of the great TV seasons of all time… season three is where the mythology really works for me. It’s also the season where the standalones are generally the sharpest, despite a few clunkers here and there (no season is perfect). And, as the perfect capper, Darin Morgan turns in three episodes that rank among the best television episodes of all time. It’s a brutally consistent season of television, swinging from strength to strength, handily taking the show from cult sensation to genuine pop culture phenomenon, a show that would become a major part of the ’90s cultural landscape and an Emmy Award-winning sensation, instead of just a show a handful of devoted, fervent fans watched.

I must agree. Season 3 always has been will always be my favorite.
